What Is ‘The Pilates Doctor’ All About?

‘The Pilates Doctor’ was set up by Esther at the start of the Covid Pandemic when she saw a need to create a safe and easily accessible way of exercising from home. Esther had been teaching studio Pilates since 2005 and had created a loyal following of clients. At the start of lockdown she set up online classes for her clients which proved to be popular.

After lock down, Esther noticed that she was treating lots of injuries in her Physiotherapy clinic caused by people performing high intensity unsupervised exercise. She decided to address this by creating her own low risk online classes.

Esther created the online Pilates Doctor brand so that Pilates can be performed safely from the comfort of your own home at a time to suit you.

Esther teaches live stream Pilates classes which can also be accessed as a recording. These range from beginners to advanced. Esther will guide you through each exercise with levels and adaptations to accommodate injuries. Whether you are recovering from a significant injury or you’re an elite athlete, there will be something to benefit you.

Esther Fox is a Chartered Physiotherapist and has been working in Physiotherapy since 2003, She has been teaching Pilates since 2007 when she first took a course in Clinical Pilates.


In 2011 she performed a Clinical Trial across seven hospitals investigating the effects of Pilates based rehabilitation. In 2015 she was awarded her PhD, during which she published and lectured internationally on Pilates. She is now the Director of the Mount Kelly Physiotherapy Centre in Devon.

Esther has taught exercise to hundreds of people of different ages and abilities. From children with neurological conditions to Royal Marines and elite athletes she strongly emphasises that everyone can benefit.


What Is Pilates?

Pilates is an excellent form of exercise which can be performed by almost anybody, regardless of fitness, age, injury or illness. All you need is a space the size of a mat.

Pilates is an exercise regime deigned by Joseph Pilates in early 20th century. His repertoire of exercises has been adapted and used by dancers, athletes and of course Physiotherapists to improve strength, flexibility and balance. The Pilates repertoire is based around the principle of control of movement and breathing, concentration and centring.

Our Classes

What Do We Do?

We run online and face to face classes based on Pilates. We run one to one/ two to one and group sessions, both online or face to face.

Online classes are via zoom (add link to zoom software) Recordings of live classes can be accessed for one week, you do not need to attend the live class to access the recording. Attendance in live zoom session is limited to 12 places.

One to One sessions with Esther at the Mount Kelly Clinic are great for those who struggle with mobility, getting on and off the floor and have more complex needs but want to gain all the benefits of Pilates. We have a ballet barre and height adjustable plinth plus standard Pilates equipment.
